Who We Are
Island Queers and Allies Who Care is an incorporated, not-for-profit, charitable organization.
We exclusively fund 2SLGBTQIA+ projects and queer friendly initiatives on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and Discovery Islands.
We have charitable status!
Donations of $20 or more will receive a charitable tax receipt.
100% of your donations always benefits others. We have no administrative costs or overhead. Website maintenance and promotional materials are covered by membership fees, not donations.
Our Allies Are Important
We’re called Island Queers and Allies Who Care because our allies have been instrumental in helping queer communities continue to exist and expand throughout history. Our collective social justice work and activism have helped many folks to gain more visibility and acceptance in our neighbourhoods.
About the Fund
By combining donations from many donors we give local 2SLGBTQIA+ projects and queer-friendly initiatives a leg up. We aim to fund multiple projects each year, and the number of projects we support is dependant upon the amount of funds we are able to raise.
At the end of each quarter, donors from that quarter will have the opportunity to give input to our Board, to help choose the successful applications. In the event that we have more than three applications for funding, our Board will select three finalists for donors to consider.
Territorial Acknowledgement
We are engaged in this work on the traditional and unceded territories of the Kwakwaka'wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Coast Salish peoples, in particular the Snuneymuxw, Songhees, and Esquimalt Nations. We acknowledge and respect their relationship to the land and leadership in our communities.
